As qualified, professional musicians and teachers, our 25 Goodtime Music Academy tutors endured their fair share of terrible music lessons as kids. They’re committed to creating music lessons they would’ve loved to attend.
Our tutors have worked with many touring NZ musicians. They’re song-writers, performers and recording artists. Now, they’re using their experience and love of music to transform the way we teach, to create an environment where children can grow, learn and most importantly, raise the roof.
Goodtime Music Academy is owned by former member of The Black Seeds, Andrew Christiansen.
After receiving a cornet from his music-mad parents at age three, Andrew has developed an incredibly diverse musical career and has played in and won many jazz and music competitions.
Andrew moved to Wellington to attend the New Zealand School of Music, majoring in jazz performance. There he had the opportunity to play alongside and learn from some of the world’s most renowned musical talents.
After playing guitar and drums for multiple rock groups, as well as lead trumpet for The Rodger Fox Big Band, Andrew joined The Black Seeds. During his time with The Black Seeds the band released multiple albums and played at international festivals alongside bands such as Tool, Radiohead, UB40 and The Original Wailers.
Andrew has taken part in multiple international tours, having played in Europe, the USA, the Pacific Islands and Australia.
Andrew has undertaken a business degree and now plays original music with his band, About the Deadlines. Andrew co-owns House of Sound in Kapiti Coast, where he now lives.
Andrew is dedicated and passionate about teaching music and is constantly looking to push the boundaries of musical education. A keen solid-fuel cook, Andy now enjoys negotiating with his two-year-old daughter about the merits of wearing shoes in winter.
Mike is the on-site manager at Goodtime Music Academy.
A music graduate hailing from the UK, Mike has travelled the world playing in orchestras on cruise ships in over 52 countries per year. A massive music buff, Mike loves all music from classical to jazz, power ballads to punk. Like many of the tutors at Goodtime Music Academy, Mike is a proficient multi-instrumentalist. Mike principally plays guitar and can also play the drums, bass and piano. Mike moved to New Zealand from the UK three years ago and loves getting outdoors.
